Everyday tennis enthusiasts are being offered an opportunity to claim a seven-figure prize when they take on world-class athletes - headed by top-ranked the Spanish champion - in a winner-takes-all point before the year's first major

Event planners of the year's first Grand Slam have unveiled the Million Dollar One Point Slam, which will pit a dozen non-professionals against 22 professionals in a elimination competition at the tournament grounds

This Innovative Event Will Work

Participants must play 'the decision-making game' to determine who serves or receives, and the competitor securing the point will progress to the subsequent phase

The victor of the event will earn a significant cash prize

By comparison, players who advanced to the final four of the main draw competitions in the 2025 Australian Open won over a million Australian dollars

Previous Similar Events

The American Grand Slam organized a redesigned, standalone combined gender tournament in late summer which motivated top singles players to participate, with the victors receiving one million US dollars

The Australian Open held its inaugural One Point Slam earlier this year, but the total purse was sixty thousand Australian dollars and it generated little publicity

The Russian player was the single high-ranked athlete involved, and his campaign came to an end when he directed the single service opportunity allowed failing to clear the net in his penultimate round

Tournament Information

Officials have not detailed exactly how the event will function, but it is anticipated to follow a similar format to the previous version

The professionals will be permitted to serve once and the amateurs two times - as is the norm in conventional tennis

While it is not certain how the draw will work, there will be several competitive phases and the venue will be the primary court rather than the alternative court

The final stages will take place in a nighttime schedule instead of midday timing

Competitor Details

Domestic competitors - or overseas competitors who have registered with the national federation - can participate in 'quick-match event' events at their community centers

The victors of the grassroots tournaments will then go into a random pairing, with an everyday competitor from every state and territory chosen to participate in the 'final competition' in a nighttime event on mid-January

There will also be a qualifying draw in December which non-professionals, lower ranked pros, well-known figures and sport stars can participate in

It begins on Monday, 12 January and the pair of champions will advance to Wednesday's 'championship match' with the remaining non-professionals and top-ranked athletes

"Whether you're an amateur or a pro, the final champion will walk away with the reward. Entries will open soon at facilities throughout the nation"

Event organizers said there were "more big names to be announced soon", while the event portal said "well-known figures" would be taking part
