Line of Duty Confirmed for Seventh Series on BBC
The beloved police drama AC-12 will make a comeback for its 7th installment, announced by the BBC.
An upcoming six-part season written by the show's creator will begin filming in Northern Ireland this spring, as confirmed by the network.
The actress expressed excitement about the comeback, saying she was "thrilled" about the series' return. Her co-star added, "What a joy it is to know that the main trio will be reuniting together next year."
The last season wrapped up in recent years with a finale that drew in over 17 million audience members. Speculation about a potential return have been circulating for some time, but official word only arrived recently.
Fresh Obstacles for The Team
The seventh season will open with AC-12 having been disbanded and renamed as the new police oversight body, according to the announcement.
Martin Compston's character, Kate Fleming, and Adrian Dunbar's part continue tasked to combat corruption within the police force.
Their work "has never been more difficult", and under these circumstances, the trio are assigned their "most sensitive case so far."
New Character and Complex Case
An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, described as a charismatic officer known for takedowns of organized crime, is accused of abusing his position to become a sexual predator.
However, his case could be a intentional diversion from a bigger threat still active in the background, plot details hinted.
In a statement, Jed Mercurio said: "Everyone involved are deeply thankful to the show's fans."
"It's an honor to have had countless followers watch the developments of AC-12 over six previous seasons and we are thrilled to be coming back for a new installment."
Mercurio continued: "Misconduct in this country was thought to be over while Line of Duty was off air, so I've been forced to use my imagination."
Actor Responses
The Scottish actor called appearing in the police drama as "a job of a lifetime".
"Beyond the program's popularity but the colleagues I've worked with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I'm excited to wear the uniform again and reunite with everyone," he added.
Vicky McClure remarked: "Obviously I'm very happy the show is returning! Can't wait to work with the creator, Martin and Dunbar again. Belfast, we'll see you soon!"
The veteran actor noted: "As we count down the AC-12 days of Christmas, how exciting it is to know that the central trio will be working together next year."
