After a decisive victory at the Lusail Grand Prix, the Red Bull driver has substantially closed the gap in the title race. He now finds himself just a dozen points behind leader McLaren's Lando Norris and in front of teammate Oscar Piastri, the scene is set for a thrilling three-way season finale at the famous Yas Marina Circuit.

What makes this late-season charge truly astonishing is how far he has fought back. Following the Dutch Grand Prix in August, he was an enormous over a century of points behind the then-leader his rival and had essentially conceded his championship hopes.

The shift began with substantial performance updates introduced by Red Bull at the Monza. Modifications to the car's floor and front wing rectified persistent balance issues, allowing Verstappen to feel comfortable with the chassis once more.

From then on, the results has been nothing short of dominant, achieving five wins and multiple podiums. He made sure to highlight the unified work behind this success.

"We have achieved victories where maybe the odds were against us, by making the right call as a group," he explained. "My collaboration with my race engineer and the every member... we are perfectly synchronized."

Ahead of the arrive in Abu Dhabi, the points situation is crystal clear.

• Lando Norris will claim his debut world title if he outpaces both Verstappen and Piastri or secures a podium finish.
• Max Verstappen has to take the checkered flag first and requires that his rival finishes off the podium.
• Oscar Piastri, trailing by 16 points, needs a victory and have his teammate end up no higher than sixth.

The spotlight rests heavily on McLaren, who have seen a sizable lead disappear due to costly errors, including a double disqualification in Las Vegas.
