New York City Mayor Eric Adams Will Support Andrew Cuomo in New York City Mayoral Race

New York City Mayor Eric Adams revealed his decision to endorse Andrew Cuomo in the upcoming mayoral race, even after months of public tension between the pair of Democrats.

A Surprising Reversal After Recent Criticism

Only weeks ago, Adams had strongly criticized Cuomo, calling him a “snake and a untruthful person” and alleging of having “a career of marginalizing Black political contenders.” However, in a new development, Adams made a U-turn, revealing he now plans to appear with Cuomo in communities where he holds significant backing.

“It is crucial to energize the communities of color that have experienced urban displacement on how important this election is,” Adams remarked.

Adams continued, “They have watched their rents increase in terms of gentrification and they have been overlooked in those neighborhoods, and I plan to visit to those communities and talk directly with organizers and groups and I’m going to walk with the governor in those areas and get them motivated.”

Election Landscape and Recent Events

The election battle has so far been shaped by the contest between the former governor and progressive candidate Zohran Mamdani, whose increasing popularity has made headlines worldwide and represented hopes for a rejuvenated leftwing of the Democrats.

During a recent mayoral debate, both the democratic socialist and GOP candidate Curtis Sliwa stated they would decline the mayor's support if offered.

Earlier this year, Adams had begun his bid for another term as an unaffiliated candidate after facing federal corruption charges which were later dropped in exchange for Adams’s cooperation with federal immigration raids across New York City.

At an separate media briefing on Thursday, Adams responded to reporters asking about the support announcement by stating, “I'm meeting Andrew this evening.”

This development came a day after Adams and Cuomo were spotted sitting courtside together at the New York Knicks’ first game at Madison Square Garden, which took place right after a contentious candidate debate.
