Slot Asserts He Is Secure and Retains The Club's Backing After PSV Loss
Arne Slot admitted that it was understandable for concerns to be asked about his future after another convincing defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their ninth defeat in 12 games, representing the team's worst run since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league title holders on a difficult night at their home ground.
“I'm confident, things are alright, I have got plenty of support from management,” the coach remarked.
“It's important to change things and get a victory obviously but if you are working as a coach and struggling then it's expected that questions are asked.”
He continued, “I accept my position. It is not the first time I’ve been in a difficult position but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”
Discussions with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to provide details on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach said:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful to the team and for me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me all the time of the day to say they back me.”
He further stated, “During our regular discussions I feel the trust. However I've not talked to them since this match so far so it remains to be seen.”
Recurring Issues and Player Response
The manager lamented recurring failings from his Liverpool side in their European defeat, specifically wasted chances and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the solutions. Honestly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everybody,” Jones remarked.
“It is not good enough. I don't need to wait to consider it. I'm beyond getting mad inside. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He went on, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the club I love. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen Liverpool for years.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team enduring a phase of this nature with performances so bad.”
Jones finished, “However we still have the emblem on our shirts. And until it is gone, we'll continue to battle.”
“We will attempt to help the side back to the top, prove once more what this club is about and the reason it's called the best team in the world.”
“But right now, things are bad and it must improve.”
