In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a glimpse into the storyline but leaving viewers wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The preview shows the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a latest plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a fair and helping prize toys locate loving owners.

Certainly, the filmmakers will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, though. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip displays the badge pinned to her shirt.

It is hoped she is remains the key figure among the group.
