The Red Devils Set to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Acquisition for United

The forward, with six months remaining on her contract, has been a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a major signing for the Women’s Super League team.

Departure from Bayern was expected after she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading forwards. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen the Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a major boost to United’s attacking options. She has been highly reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Steam at Carrington

The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when United seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen further activity:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a club official commented: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
